An Era of Youth Comes to an End

FC Heinsberg-Lieck News Banner

At the football club 1. FC Heinsberg-Lieck e.V., new milestones are being set. The U19 played their last championship match in the Bezirksliga. With the season's outcome, they managed to secure a league position that solidifies direct qualification for the next season in the Bezirksliga. It was a very turbulent second half of the season. During the winter break, the team, which mainly consists of younger players, already played against senior teams from Kreisliga B, Kreisliga A, and a friendly match against Germania Teveren. Of course, valuable lessons and experiences were gained from these matches. The team started the second half of the season well, but a real and decisive breakthrough was missing. The coaching team had to frequently adjust, change, and reorganize. Injuries, absences, player transfers, and not least the indirect influence of other local clubs posed significant challenges for the coaching team. Towards the end of the season, it was also a major and important aspect to focus on the senior teams. By transferring players to the senior teams, the club 1. FC Heinsberg-Lieck accepted the double burden on the players, which was to the detriment of the U19.

The U19 looks back on several years of youth football, having won countless tournaments, multiple district championships, district cups, and indoor district championship titles. They also achieved several promotions to the Bezirksliga and, without COVID, even the Mittelrheinliga. Additionally, some players received invitations to the youth academies (NLZ) of Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen, and 1. FC Köln. Over the years, this led to the departure of key players. Even when players transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach or Alemannia Aachen, the resulting gaps were successfully filled.

In the next season, the challenges in the senior division will be similarly high. This experience was already made years ago in Heinsberg-Lieck, and the responsible parties will support the team. For the benefit of the club's future and thus also for football.

The downside after this season lies in the renewed departures of several players who are leaving the club to seek their future elsewhere. But let's look ahead and note that the main artery (the healthy core) remains loyal to the club and the team, looking positively towards the years ahead.

We look forward to great football at the Seestadion and thank all players for their youth years at 1. FC Heinsberg-Lieck.
